Bastien Update @ 11:14 pm

So, Bastien (BASS-TEE-EN) is settling right in. He doesn't quite know where to go, as Ada rules with an Iron Paw, and all the world is hers and don't you forget it, mister, even if I am half your size. We found him curled up beside the toilet earlier (which was, quite possibly, the saddest thing I'd seen in a while), but I think he has finally negotiated a spot on the office chair where he can nap. The doc declared him healthy, except for being a couple pounds under weight and having abnormal gums which are likely the result of immunity issues from exposure and spotty food. He also said his fur was a little greasy (as you can see by the clumpiness in his fur in these pictures), most likely from food issues. The doc sent him home with some walnut flower essence for both kitties to make the transition easier. He is also taking colostrum, Animal Essentials Essential Oils (both to boost immunity, thanks to [info]oquawka for the gift of colostrum and recommendations) and Rescue Remedy (to help him chill out). He is also on a completely raw, locally made diet now. GOOD GOD can the boy put away the groceries! He gets a whole small bowl full twice a day and still begs for more. Methinks we'll be making our own raw food soon or he'll eat us out of house and home.:) One 16 oz. container of Rad Cat is $7 and that is gone in two and a half days between the two of them. Thankfully we have access to a good natural butcher!

Soon, I will post pictures of the Christmas Hen.

So, our lovely Ada has been on Rad Cat Raw Food and nothing else for about two days now. We finally developed a strategy, and took a leap of faith. The girl gobbles it down like I never thought she would once we figured out how to bring it up to "fresh kill" temperature (by dropping the bag in slightly hot water). It is pretty amazing how soft and silky her fuzz is getting. She also has more energy (and I have more scars). She really hasn't been too whiney about the frequency of food being reduced either and the price of the food is really reasonable. She is even eating it with her added herbs to support the worm medication. It is pretty cool. What a beautiful, spoiled girl she is.:) She is currently snuggled up with [info]archangelq's leather top hat, sound asleep.

Holistic Vet @ 12:22 pm

I was so jazzed to find out that there is a holistic/integrative veterinarian in the area. Finally, I can take the Ada to a doctor who looks at both sides of the coin. And, the doc checks out with other docs too. More yay. I called them today to figure out how much they bend you over the table for their services (because holistic vets are known for their ridiculous prices), and I found out they actually have a senior maintenance plan for cats over seven years old. Weird to think of her as a senior considering the fresh scars on my arm from a recent play session with the lights moving across the wall above our bed from the cars going by at night. But the plan sounds very nifty. They suggest a full work up yearly (blood panel, urinalysis, etc.) and a mini check-up every six months after seven years old. At normal holistic vet prices, that'd be way too expensive, but if you enroll in the senior program, they give you a discounted price (and really, their regular prices aren't any more than I paid in California for a regular vet). The staff was also super nice and helpful (there is that service thing again). This is so cool! Now I might actually get someone to look at her touchy skin issue without jumping straight to a cordisone shot. Baka.

Pop! @ 09:15 pm

Current Mood: cheerful

Another happy realization - I'm moving back to the land where pop is called pop! I don't have to think twice about which dialect I'm using every time I order food. No more younglings saying, "huh?" every time I slip (for now). It should be interesting watching the reactions to the coastal Cali dialect I've "totally" picked up, though.:>

In other news, Ada was in her carrier all afternoon (over four hours) being carted all over to the vet, on buses, to a friend, etc. She was such a little angel (for once)! Barely a peep out of her. She was not mad when we got home, and even flirted with visitors we had that were new to her. I am more and more confident that she will be absolutely peachy on the flight/trip up there (about six hours) in two weeks.
